Hanukkah Delights

“Round, pillowy jelly-filled donuts.”
Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. During the eight-day festival, Jews traditionally eat fried foods to commemorate the small amount of oil that miraculously burned for eight days in the ancient Temple. Although my personal fried-Hanukkah-food-of-choice is laktes (fried potato pancakes), our family also enjoys sufganiyot: round, pillowy jelly-filled donuts. Brave home cooks may choose to whip up a batch on their own, but our family prefers the easier method of popping over to Bogart’s, Glam Dolls, or Sift Gluten Free for immediate sufganiyot satisfaction.
