A Cup of Christmas Tea
Hattie Anderson
“It reminds us of the importance of gathering each season.”
Seasons greetings! I am happy to share a family tradition, introduced by my mom, Jane Goplen, since childhood and am excited to share with my own daughter, Esme Jane, this holiday season.
As a family of avid book lovers, my mom enjoys finding Minnesota based authors and supporting their literary works. Through her, our family has been introduced to the book, A Cup of Christmas Tea authored by Minneapolis native Tom Hegg. Every year before gift opening, after reading the Nativity Story, Mom reads this book to remind us of the importance of gathering during the holiday season.
The book is a poem, which emphasizes the importance of the holiday spirit and traditions we hold as children, yet sometimes forget as we come into adulthood. The magic and joy of the holiday season comes by reminiscing cherished memories, shared by loving family and dear friends. It is also a time to slow down in our busy lives, gather and celebrate life as it continues during the holiday season. An opportunity to establish new traditions to pass down to our children.
I love this book and if you haven’t read it, I encourage you to add it to your family’s holiday festivities, adding a deeper meaning to this time of year.
