“We can reconnect with our roots through food.

Being far from home can be difficult, but each year my husband and I find comfort in reconnecting with our roots through food. This year, we’re continuing that tradition by making Nigerian chin chin together—now as a family of three and are thrilled to share the recipe with you! Join us and Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp grated lime zest
  • 4 tsp butter
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • Oil, for frying

Directions :

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, nutmeg, and lime zest
  2. Add butter to the above batter and mix until well incorporated.
  3. Then add the milk and egg to the mixture. Keep mixing until a sticky dough ball is formed.
  4. Place the dough ball on a floured surface and knead, incorporating more flour into the dough as needed until the dough is smooth, elastic, and is no longer sticky.
  5. Divide the dough in half and place each half on a floured board. Roll each half dough until it shapes out like linguine and then cut into tiny squares.
  6. Pour around 3 inches of oil in a high-walled frying pan and heat. When the gets oil, pour the shaped dough in it (make sure to be careful so the oil doesn’t splash up).
  7. Fry the shaped dough until golden and remove using a skimmer.
  8. Enjoy!
